Lawrence L. Knoebel Covered Bridge
Columbia and Northumberland Counties, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-19-39/38-49-13)  (WGCB PA-19-39/PA-49-13):   (1875) (Private)  A single-span Queenpost truss 38' 6" over South Branch of Roaring Creek.  Located:  At the entrance to Knoebels Grove Campground, adjacent to Knoebels Grove Amusement Park, between Cleveland Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania and Ralpho Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  3 miles east northeast of jct. of SR 54 on SR 487 on the East side of the road at county line.  Alternate directions:  Go through the Knoebels Lumber entrance off SR 487, turn left and go about .7 mile to the bridge on the right.  The bridge, then named the John R. Cole Covered Bridge, was originally located over West Creek, near Benton, Columbia County, Pennsylvania and cost $348.00 to build.  In 1936, it was sold to H. H. Knoebel and his sons for $40.00 when road relocation bypassed it.  It was dismantled and moved fifty miles to the Grove, and reconstructed.  The structure rests on cement block abutments laid on concrete footers.  It has a shake roof, vertical board and batten siding, and a deck of lengthwise planking.  There is a  covered sidewalk on the downstream side.  Also known as the Lawrence L. Knoebel Memorial Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 8, 1979.  (Apr 2006)
