The bridge, then named the John R. Cole Covered Bridge, was originally
located over West Creek, near Benton, Columbia County, Pennsylvania and
cost $348.00 to build. In 1936, it was sold to H. H. Knoebel and
his sons for $40.00 when road relocation bypassed it. It was dismantled
and moved fifty miles to the Grove, and reconstructed. The structure
rests on cement block abutments laid on concrete footers. It has
a shake roof, vertical board and batten siding, and a deck of lengthwise
planking. There is a covered sidewalk on the downstream side.
Also known as the
Lawrence L. Knoebel Memorial Covered Bridge.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 8,
1979. (Apr 2006) |
