Loux Covered Bridge
Bucks County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-09-11) (WGCB PA-09-11):  (1874; restored 1996)  A single-span Town lattice truss 85' 6" over Cabin Run Creek.  Located:  On Wismer Road, Plumstead Township, Pennsylvania  or Carversville Road, Bedminster Township, Pennsylvania just southwest of Pipersville, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  From Wismer, Pennsylvania at the jct. of Stump Road and Wismer Road, travel northwest on Wismer Road for 1 mile to the bridge.  From Pipersville, Pennsylvania at the jct. of SR 611 and SR 413, go south on SR 413 for 0.6 mile to the jct. with Dark Hollow Road.  Go left on Dark Hollow Road for 0.2 mile to Carversville Road.  Turn right on Carversville Road and go 0.5 mile to the bridge.  A concrete plaque in the wing wall identifies the bridge as “Cabin Run.”  Local residents do not know why.  It may have been named for the creek over which it is built.  There is another bridge in the county named the Cabin Run Covered Bridge (WGN 38-09-10).  The bridge has basically the same features as the other bridges in the county except it is painted white on both the sides and the portals.  It was closed in January 1996, for six months, for repairs and restoration, at an estimated cost of $340,000.00.  It received a new roof, rafters, painted siding, strengthened abutments, and removal of sediment from the stream bed.  It was reopened on July 3, 1996.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments, reinforced with concrete, and has stone and mortar wing walls capped with concrete.  It has white painted vertical boarding on both the sides and portals and splash panels.  The portal features a curved opening.  The deck consists of lengthwise planking and it has a shake roof.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1980.   (Jun 2008)
