New Germantown Covered Bridge
 Perry County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-50-11)  (WGCB PA-50-11)  (1891; repaired c. 1996)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Queenpost truss 74' 8.5" over Sherman’s Creek.  Located:  On Lower Buck Ridge Road, New Germanown, Toboyne Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In New Germantown, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of SR 274 and Lower Buck Ridge Road, go south on Lower Buck Ridge Road for 0.3 mile to the bridge.  The bridge has an unusual truss system.  A multiple Kingpost truss sandwiched between two Queenpost trusses.   Its faded barn red sides and white trimmed portals are covered with vertical board and batten siding, the roof is made of corrugated metal, and the deck consists of lengthwise planking laid over crosswise planking.  The structure sits on concrete abutments with moderately long stone and mortar wing walls that rise to parapets approximately two feet above the approaches.  The bridge has been damaged by flood waters.  Hurricane Fran caused damage to the bridge in September 1996, however, it was not closed and has since been repaired. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 25, 1980.   (Sep 2006)
