County, Pennsylvania
(WGN
38-50-11) (WGCB PA-50-11) (1891; repaired c.
1996) A single-span multiple Kingpost with Queenpost truss 74' 8.5"
over Sherman’s Creek. Located: On Lower Buck Ridge Road, New
Germanown, Toboyne Township, Pennsylvania. Directions: In New
Germantown, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of SR 274 and Lower Buck Ridge Road,
go south on Lower Buck Ridge Road for 0.3 mile to the bridge. The
bridge has an unusual truss system. A multiple Kingpost truss sandwiched
between two Queenpost trusses. Its faded barn red sides and
white trimmed portals are covered with vertical board and batten siding,
the roof is made of corrugated metal, and the deck consists of lengthwise
planking laid over crosswise planking. The structure sits on concrete
abutments with moderately long stone and mortar wing walls that rise to
parapets approximately two feet above the approaches. The bridge
has been damaged by flood waters. Hurricane Fran caused damage to
the bridge in September 1996, however, it was not closed and has since
been repaired. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places
on August 25, 1980. (Sep 2006) |
