On Forge Road (SR 2006), East Nottingham Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania
and Ashville Road (SR 2006), Little Britain Township, Lancaster County.
Pennsylvania. Directions: On Forge Road (SR 2006), at the southeast
edge of Pine Grove, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The structure was restored
in 1988. The first bridge on this site, built in 1816, was destroyed
by a storm. A second single-span structure built in 1846, at a cost
of $1,494, was swept away by ice. The current covered bridge was
built in 1884 and cost $4,295. It is the longest in the Lancaster
County area and one of the longest in the state. The dam located
above the bridge on the Octoaro Creek is used to impound water for the
Octoaro recreation area. (Oct 2004) |
