Rapp Covered Bridge

(WGN 38-15-14) (WGCB PA-15-14):  (1866)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Burr arch truss 118' 8" over French Creek.  Located:  On South Rapp’s Dam Road (SR 1049), East Pikeland Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Phoenixville, Pennsylvania from the jct. of SR 23 and SR 29, go west on SR 23 for 2.2 miles to Rapp’s Dam Road.  Turn left approximately 0.3 mile to South Rapp’s Dam Road (SR 1049); turn left to the bridge.  Named for George A. Rapp and his sons who operated a sawmill and gristmill just south of the bridge.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments and has stone and mortar wing walls which are capped with concrete.  It has a high double Burr arch truss sandwiching a multiple Kingpost framework.  Its sides and portals are covered with wide weathered cedar horizontal clapboard siding.  The sides unpainted and the portals painted white.  It is open under the eves for ventilation and there is one opposing wide horizontal window on each side with a small awning-type roof over the opening.  The floor consists of wide lengthwise boarding and the roof has cedar shakes and projects beyond the entrances to provide additional weather protection for the interior.   Also known as the Rapp's Covered Bridge and the Rapp’s Dam Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 18, 1973.
