Red Covered Bridge
 Perry County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-50-06)  (WGCB PA-50-06)  (1886; restored 1991)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Queenpost truss 55' 3" over Wildcat Creek.  Located:  On the bypassed section of SR 1005, approximately 1.5 miles west of Liverpool, Liverpool Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Liverpool, Pennsylvania at the jct. of SR 17 and SR 1010 (just west of jct. of SR 17 and US 11/15), go south on SR 1010 for 1.3 miles (SR 1010 turns after 0.2 miles) to SR 1005.  Turn right and go 0.2 mile to the bypassed bridge.  The bridge has been bypassed by a new highway.  The bridge was restored in 1991.  A local, retired mason rebuild the stone and mortar wing walls and parapets.  The multiple kingpost truss is sandwiched between two queen post trusses.  It is covered with barn red vertical boards and battens on the sides and horizontal  clapboard on the portals.  While most of the bridges in Perry County have only white trim on the portals, the portals of this bridge are completely white,  The bridge has no windows, the roof is covered with sheet metal, and the deck is laid in a diagonal herringbone pattern.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments that extend to moderately long wing walls and fairly low parapets.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 25, 1980.  (Apr 2006)
