Ryot Covered Bridge
Bedford County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-05-17)  (WGCB PA-05-17)  (1868; restored 1995; burned 2002; rebuilt 2004)  A single-span Burr arch truss 81' 2" over Dunning Creek.  Located on Bowser Road (TR 549), 0.4 mile east of Ryot, Clair Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  From the Dr. Knisley Covered Bridge (WGN 38-05-16), continue on Dunnings Creek Road (TR 671) for 3.5 miles to Bowser Road (TR 549).  Park along Dunnings Creek Road for easy access to both this and another nearby (Cuppett’s Covered Bridge [WGN 38-05-18]).  This is one of the nine bridges in Bedford County still being used for vehicular traffic.  It was named for the town of Ryot, located just to the west of the bridge.  Underwent restoration in 1995, burned in 2002 and rebuilt in 2004.  It has bright white vertical boards on the sides and covers about three-fourths of the bridges height, and white, horizontal boards with red trim cover the portals.  The lower three feet of the interior sides are covered with horizontal boards.  The roof is corrugated metal, and the deck consists of runners laid over crosswise planking.  The bridge rests on reconstructed stone and mortar faced abutments with road level, stone and mortar wingwalls.  The original structure, which was burned by arsonist  in 2002, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1980.  (Apr 2005)
