Sam Eckman Covered Bridge
Columbia County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-19-08) (WGCB PA-19-08)  (1876; painted and reroofed 1998)  A single-span Queenpost truss 65' 5"  over Little Fishing Creek.  Located:  Just west of Sereno Road on Covered Bridge Road (TR 548), approximately 3.5 miles northeast of Sereno, Pennsylvania between Pine and Greenwood Townships, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Sereno, Pennsylvania at the jct. of SR 42 and SR 442, go north on SR 42 approximately 1.1 miles to the jct. with Sereno Road (SR 4031).  Go northeast on Sereno Road (SR 4031) for 2.4 miles to the bridge on Covered Bridge Road (TR 548), immediately to the left (west).  Sereno Road (SR 4031) is an unimproved, gravel road in places.  Be sure to remain on Sereno Road (SR 4031).  Built at a cost of $498.00.  It was named after Samuel Eckman, who was a prominent businessman who operated a farm, shingle mill, birch oil factory, and later established the Millville Creamery.  It has vertical board siding and a new corrugated sheet metal roof.  The east end of the structure is built on a poured concrete abutment, the west end abutment is stone and mortar.  It is decked with runners laid over crosswise planking.  The bridge was painted and reroofed with sheet metal in 1998.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 29, 1979.  (Apr 2006)
