Washington
County, Pennsylvania
(WGN
38-63-34) (WGCB PA-63-34) (1915; being renovated
2005 ) A single-span Queenpost truss 57' 3" over Buffalo Creek.
Located: On Buffalo Camp Road, approximately 3.5 miles northwest
of Taylorstown, Blain Township, Pennsylvania. Directions: In
Taylorstown, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of SR 221 and SR 4024, where SR
221 is named Buffalo Creek Road, go north on Buffalo Creek Road (SR 221)
for 3.1 miles to Buffalo Camp Road. The bridge is just to the left
on Buffalo Camp Road. The bridge had vertical board siding, barn
red paint inside and outside, and three rectangular windows on each side.
It had a sheet metal roof and a deck of crosswise planking. It rested
on one concrete abutment and one stone and mortar abutment. The stone
and mortar abutment extends to form attractive curved wing walls on the
SR 221 end of the bridge. The bridge is the second of only two covered
bridges constructed in Washington County during World War I. It was
built partially as a result of the shortage of steel during the war years.
When photographed on October 5, 2005, the bridge had been removed from
its abutments and was on dry ground being renovated. It was listed
on the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1979. (Oct
