Shearer's Covered Bridge
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-36-31)  (WGCB PA-36-31)  (1856; relocated 1971)  A single-span Burr arch truss 89' 1" over Chickies Creek.  Located:  In Manheim Memorial Park, between Penn and Rapho Townships, Manheim, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Manheim, Pennsylvania, follow East High Street to Laurel Street (follow sign to Manheim Central High School).  Turn left to Adele Avenue.  Turn right past the high school and go to parking area at end  of Adele Avenue.  The bridge is directly ahead.  The original bridge was built in 1847 at a cost of about $600.  Then in 1856, it was rebuilt for $1,200.  In 1971 it was moved four miles to Manheim Memorial Park, across from the high school, at a cost of $12,000.  In 1991, estimated cost of rehabilitation ranged from $14,000 to $32,700.  (It is not known if any rehabilitation has taken place, but when photographed on October 16, 2004 the structure was in excellent condition).  In its new location, the bridge still crosses Chickies Creek.   Also known as the Jacob Shearer Covered Bridge and the Shearer's Mill Covered Bridge.  The bridge has horizontal siding and long horizontal windows located just inside each portal.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980.  (Oct 2004)
