Speakman No. 1 Covered Bridge
 Chester County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-15-05) (WGCB PA-15-05):  (1881)  A single-span Burr arch truss 93' 2.5" over Buck Run.  Located:  On Frog Hollow Road (SR 3047), between East Fallowfield and West Marlborough Townships, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In McWilliams town (Hephzibah), Pennsylvania  from the jct. of Strasburg Road (SR 3062) and Frog Hollow Road (SR 3047), go south on Frog Hollow Road (SR 3047) approximately 1.8 miles to the bridge.  The bridge was named for the the Jonathan Speakman Gristmill.  Originally built ay a cost of $2,000.00.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments and has stone and mortar wing walls.  The undercarriage of the bridge is supported with three  steel I-beams set on concrete foundations in the middle of the stream.  It has faded barn red painted vertical board and batten siding and portals.   It is open under the eaves for ventilation.  The floor consists of lengthwise planking laid on top of crosswise planking and it has a cedar shake roof.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980.    (Jun 2008)
