The floor consists of wide lengthwise planking and it has a sheet metal roof that projects beyond the entrances to provide additional weather protection for the interior.  When the railroad was constructed in this area in the early 1900s the bridge was also known as the Thomas Station Covered Bridge and the Thomas Ford Covered Bridge.  The original 1879 structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 3, 1979.  (Jun 2009)
