Van Sant Covered Bridge

(WGN 38-09-03) (WGCB PA-09-03):  (1875)  A single-span Town lattice truss 86' 5" over Pidcock Creek.  Located:  On Van Sant Road, approximately 1 mile east of Buckmanville, Pennsylvania just west of Washington Crossing State Park, Soleburg Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Highton, Pennsylvania at the jct. of SR 232 and Street Road (SR 2101), go southeast on Street Road (SR 2101) for 0.3 mile to Lurgan Road (Also SR 2101).  Turn left on Lurgan Road (SR 2101) for 1 mile to Van Sant Road, turn left on Van Sant Road and go 0.5 mile to the bridge.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments, reinforced with concrete, and has stone and mortar wing walls capped with concrete.  It has barn red painted vertical boarding on both the sides and portals.  The lower half of the portals and wide vertical splash panels are painted white.  The portal features a curved opening.  The deck consists of lengthwise planking and it has a shake roof.  Also known as the Beaver Dam Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1980.   (Jun 2008)
