single-span Queenpost truss 50' 2" over a wet weather drainage ditch. Located:
At the entrance of the Foxtail Housing Development, on the west edge of
Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. Directions: Traveling north on SR
42, from the jct. with US 11, look to the right for the Foxtail Development.
The bridge is located in an open area to the left of the road leading into
the development. The bridge originally spanned Roaring Creek, near
Slabtown, Pennsylvania. When it was originally built it had a length
of 62 feet. Prior to 1991, it was removed from its original location
and place in storage. The developer of the Foxtail Housing Development
subsequently had the bridge rebuilt near the entrance to Foxtail in 1995.
The new site is approximately eight to ten miles north of its original
location. At its new location, it rests on steel I-beams, has no
abutments, wing walls or parapets. There is no road leading to or
from it. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places
on November 29, 1979. (Apr 2006) |
