Burr arch truss 88' 7" over Conestoga Creek. Located:
On Weaverland Road (TR 773), north edge of Goodville, Caernarvon
Township, Pennsylvania. Directions: In Goodville, Pennsylvania, at the jct.
of SR 23 and Water Street, go north on Water Street for 0.9 mile to Weaverland
Road (TR 773). Turn right on Weaverland Road (TR 773) for 1 mile
to the bridge. The original cost of construction in 1878 was $1,468.
It is common to see a horse drawn buggy passing through the portals of
this bridge, as well as those of many bridges in the Amish section of Lancaster
County. Between 1993 and 2000, the ends of the Burr arch truss system
and some of the vertical posts in the multiple Kingpost part of the truss
were replaced. It is covered by vertical board and batten siding on
both the sides and portals and rests on stone and mortar abutments which
extend to stone and mortar wing walls and parapets. The deck is lengthwise
planking. Also known as the Isaac Shearer’s Mill Covered Bridge
and the White Hall Mill Covered Bridge. It was listed on the
National Register of Historic Places on December 11, 1980. (Oct 2004) |
