White Covered Bridge
Greene County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-30-30)  (WGCB PA-30-30)  (c. 1900-1919) A single-span Queenpost truss 70' 2" over Whitely Creek.  Located:  On Roberts Run Road (TR 604) approximately 2.5 miles west of Girards Fort, Greene Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  From I-79 South, Girards Fort/Kirby Exit (Exit 7), at the end of the exit ramp, turn left on SR 2018.  Go 1.6 miles to a "T" with SR 2011.  Turn right on SR 2011 and go 0.6 miles to Roberts Run Road (TR 604), turn right on Roberts Run Road (TR 604), and go 0.1 mile to the bridge.  Most sources list the original construction date of this bridge as 1919 however, the Statewide Covered Bridge Assessment indicates that the bridge was built in 1900.  A man, born in 1911, who grew up in this area, says that he remembers the White Bridge being built when he was a young boy and that prior to the building of the bridge there was a foot log across the creek just west of where the bridge now stands.  The bridge is the longest of the Queenpost structures located within Greene County, Pennsylvania.  It also has an exceptionally high Queenpost truss with a clearance of 17' 6".  The bridge is covered with white vertical tongue and grove board siding on both the sides and the portals.   The roof is covered with sheet metal and the deck consists of runners laid over diagonal, crosswise planking.  The structure rests on cut stone and mortar abutments with short, high cut stone and mortar wing walls.  It also has narrow lengthwise openings under the eaves.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1979.  (Oct 2005)
