Willow Hill Covered Bridge
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-36-43)  (WGCB PA-36-43)  (1962)  A single-span Burr arch truss 72' 6" over a tributary of Mill Creek. Located:  Along US 30, just west of SR 896, at the entrance to the Amish Farm, East Lampeter Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  The Amish Farm is on the north side of US 30, west of SR 896, just west of the American Music Theater. This bridge is a reconstruction of a historic covered bridge, the Miller’s Farm Covered Bridge (former WGN 38-36-27 #2), built in 1871 by Elias McMellen.  The original bridge was presented to Adolph Neuber, owner of the Willows Restaurant, and placed beside the restaurant for preservation as a historic landmark.  In 1991, Mr. Neuber contracted a local builder, Roy Zimmerman, to restore the structure.  Since the Miller’s Farm Covered Bridge (former 38-36-27 #2) was in poor condition, a second bridge was purchased to provide the timbers necessary for the rebuilding project.  The second structure was the Goods Fording Covered Bridge (former WGN 38-36-24), built in 1855 and torn down in March 1961.  The best parts of the Miller’s Farm Covered Bridge (former WGN 38-36-27 #2) were used for the basic project and the deteriorated timbers were replaced with sound ones from the Goods Fording Covered Bridge (former WGN 38-36-24).  Also, some of the hardware and wooden pegs, or trunnels from the Goods Fording Covered Bridge (former WGN 38-36-24) were used to reconstruct the span.  The Willows Restaurant has been replaced with the American Music Theater, and the bridge, once part of that establishment, is now being used as a second entrance to The Amish Farm.  Also Known as the Willows Covered Bridge.  (Oct 2004)
