Wren's Nest Covered Bridge
Greene County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-30-33 or 38-33-B) (WGCB PA-30-33 or PA-30-B):  (1993; under renovation 2008)  (Private)  A single-span Kingpost truss, 28' 6.5" over Wheeling Creek.  Located:  Just west of Aleppo Road (SR 3001), approximately 1.5 miles north of Aleppo, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Aleppo, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of SR 3012 (Green Valley Road) and SR 3001 (Aleppo Road), go north on Aleppo Road (SR 3001) for 1.5 miles.  The bridge is just to the left at the beginning of a private lane.  On private property so ask for permission to visit.  There is some controversy about the World Guide Number Number (WGN) for the structure.  The latest (2008) version of the World Guide CD does not list the bridge.  Some accounts i.e., Lost Bridges [web site http://lostbridges.org] list the WGN as 38-30-33 while the Dale J. Travis web site [http://www.dalejtravis.com] lists the WGN as 38-33-B.  Therefore, until the conflict is resolved, I am listing both WGN numbers.  The bridge is an authentic Kingpost truss bridge built in 1993 by Frederick V. McCracken.  It was commissioned by Richard and Eloise Davison to provide access to their home, which is located beyond Wheeling Creek, opposite Aleppo Road.  The bridge is currently being renovated.  The structure rests on concrete abutments that extend to short concrete wing walls.  Both the sides and portals are covered with new unpainted, vertical board siding.  There are lengthwise openings under the eaves and two adjoining opposing horizontal window openings on each side.  The floor consists of wide crosswise boarding and a new tin roof that projects beyond the entrances to provide additional weather protection for the interior.  Also known as the Wrens Nest Covered Bridge.  (Oct 2008)
