Washington
County, Pennsylvania
(WGN
38-63-30 #2) (WGCB PA-63-30 #2) (Date built unknown;
repaired date unknown) A single-span Kingpost truss 33' 9" over North
Branch of the Pigeon Creek. Located: On Ridge Road (TR 802)
approximately 1.5 miles south of Kammerer, Somerset Township, Pennsylvania.
Directions: In Kammerer, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of SR 136 and
Sumney Road, go south on Sumney Road for 0.5 mile to the jct. with
Holman Road. Bear left on Sumney Road for 1.1 miles until Sumney
Road becomes Ridge Road (TR 802) (at the crossroads with Carlton Road).
Cross over I-70 and go 0.15 mile to the bridge. Note: The bridge
is visible from I-70 although there is no exit at this point. The
structure has a tin covered gable roof with vertical plank siding and is
painted barn red inside and out. It is located just a few miles east
of the Kammerer, Pennsylvania, exit off Interstate 70. This is the
most easily visible of all the covered bridges in Washington County.
With the exception of two tembers, all of the Kingposts in the truss system are
sawed, indicating that the timber from a previous bridge were used in the
construction of this one although their origin is unknown. The bridge
was restored sometime prior to 2000. Also known as the Cerle Covered
Bridge and the Carl Covered Bridge. It was listed on
the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1979.
