Zimmerman's Covered Bridge
Schuykill County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-54-01)  (WGCB PA-54-01)  (1880; renovated 1996)  A single-span Burr arch truss 64' 10" over Little Swatara Creek.  Located:  On TR 661, just west of Rock, Washington Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  At the east end of Rock, Pennsylvania, starting at the “Village of Rock” sign, go west on Rock Road (SR 895) for 1.3 miles and make a left (south) onto Covered Bridge Road (TR 661) 0.1 mile to the bridge.  The bridge is covered with wide, vertical boards without batten.  The deck is covered with floorboards laid at a forty five degree angle.   In 1996, new abutments were built.  The bridge was lifted from its abutments and placed intact on the roadway while the new abutments were being built.  It was not returned to its abutments until 1998 due to “red tape” government delays.  While it was off its abutments, the basic structure was also rebuilt, including replacement of the lower cords.  (Oct 2004)
