Klickity Klack Covered Bridge
Greenville County, South Carolina
(WGN 40-23-E)  (WGCB SC-23-E)  (2000)  (Private)  A four-span non authentic Stringer truss 47' 9"  over a drainage ravine.  Located:  West of Gowensville, South Carolina at 918 Highway 11.  Directions:  From Gowensville, South Carolina at the intersection of SR 11 and SR 14, go west 2.4 miles on SR 11 to the bridge, on the right, at Lookaway Farms.  The bridge is visible from the highway.  On private property so request permission to Visit.  The bridge is modeled after the Flume Bridge (WGN 29-05-05) in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire.  Although a new bridge, it utilizes old wood for the stringers, roof supports, roof timbers and wheel treads.  The structure is supported by four timber stringers, set on poured concrete abutments and three piers, each pier constructed with three poured concrete tapered pillars on a concrete footing.  The flooring has transverse planking, one plank wide wheel treads.  There is a pedestrian walkway separated from the traffic lane by a row of timbers running the length of the bridge on the upstream side.  The roof is supported by five timbers with diagonal braces between the timber, giving the appearance of two side by side Kingpost trusses.  The open sides have a two plank high railing, along the inside which are attached to old, weathered, roof support timbers.  The gables are enclosed with horizontal facsimile tongue and groove paneling, painted light brown, with arched trimming, painted white as is the roof fascia on the sides.  The aluminum roof is painted red and features a small cupola centered on the peak.  (Mar 2006)
