Charlie's Covered Footbridge

(WGN 45-08-k)  (WGCB VT-08-k)  (1988) (Private)  A single-span non authentic Stringer truss footbridge 18' 4" over a pond inlet.  Located:  North of Waterville Township, Waterville, Vermont, at 1001 Lapland Road.  Directions:  From the center of Waterville, Vermont at the jct. of SR 109 and Church Street, go north 0.4 mile on SR 109 to Lapland Road on the left, go 1.1 miles to No. 1001 on the left.  On private property so request permission to visit.  It was built to provide access to Ellie's Island, a small island behind the residence.  The structure is supported by three timber stringers, with the ends set on stacked rocks.  Dark weathered vertical boarding covers the sides and the portals.  The floor consists of crosswise planks fastened to the stringers and the roof is covered with green painted corrugated steel.  Also known as the Adair Covered Footbridge.  (Sep 2007)
