Gentle Giants Sleigh & Carriage Rides Covered Bridge

(WGN 45-08-L)  (WGCB VT-08-L)  (1999) (Private)  A single-span non authentic post supported roof 32' over a drainage pipe.  Located:  In Stowe Township, Vermont, southeast of Stowe Fork at Gentle Giants Sleigh & Carriage Rides, 4000 Mountain Road (SR 108).  Directions:  From Stowe, Vermont take SR 100 north to SR 108 (Mountain Road) on the left, go 3.9 miles on SR 108 to Gentle Giants Sleigh & Carriage Rides on the left across from Topnotch at Stowe Resort and Spa.  The bridge was renamed Gentle Giants Sleigh & Carriage Rides Bridge in November 2003.  Restricted to sleigh and carriage rides, it is part of a scenic ride on horse drawn carriages and or a six passenger wagonette through the bridge onto a winding wooded trail along a brook then into a meadow with spectacular views of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, then back again through the covered bridge.  Gentle Giants Sleigh & Carriage Rides is open daily from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm (weather permitting).  It is featured and recommended by Yankee Magazine.  For reservations and information call (802) 253-2216.  The structure is supported by five posts on each side.  Barn red vertical boarding covers the portals and sides and there are two opposing horizontal window openings along each side.  The bridge has a dirt floor and the roof is covered with silver painted galvanized steel.  Also known as the Charlie Horse Sleigh Covered Bridge.  (Sep 2007)
