Holmes Covered Bridge
Chittendon County, Vermont 
(WGN 45-04-01)  (WGCB VT-04-01):  (1870; rehabilitated 1993; additional work in 1994)  A single-span Kingpost truss with very rare tied arch  40' 5"  over Holmes Creek.  Located: NW of Charlotte, Vermont on Lake Road.  Directions:  1.4 miles west of jct. US 7 on SR 5 through Charlotte, Vermont then right 1.8 miles on Lake Road to the bridge.  One of three surviving tied arch bridges.  Extensive repairs were made in 1993 by Graton Associates.  It is at the lowest elevation of all of the covered bridges in Vermont and also one of Vermont's shortest covered bridges.  It has vertical naturally weathered plank siding and portals.  The floor consists of 2' x 6' boards laid on edge and it is covered with a corrugated tin roof.  Also known as the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge, the Holmes Covered Bridge, the Lake Shore Covered Bridge and the Hills Bay Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 6, 1974.  (Sep 2004)
