Kent's Corner Covered Bridge

(WGN 45-12-19 #2)  (WGCB VT-12-19 #2):  (1994) (Private)  A single-span Kingpost truss  22' over Curtis Brook.  Located:  North of Montpelier, Vermont off Kent Hill Road near Kents Corner, Adamant, Vermont.  Directions:  From I-89, Exit 8, take Memorial Drive (North-East) 1.3 miles; turn left (North-East) onto US 2 [SR 12] 0.2 mile; Continue (North) on SR 12 [Main Street] 0.2 mile; bear right (East) onto Main Street 0.2 mile; bear right (East) onto Main Street [Upper Main Street] 0.5 mile; at 280 Main Street, Montpelier, Vermont stay on Main Street [Upper Main Street] (North) 0.8 mile; continue (North) on County Road 7.9 miles; At Kent Hill Road, Adamant, Vermont, turn right (East) onto Kent Hill Road 0.8 mile and arrive at first house on your left past crossroad on Kent Hill Road.  The bridge is located behind the  house  and is barely visible from Kent Hill Road.  On private property so ask permission to visit.  Take the pathway to the left of the house and walk to the bridge since it can not be reached by car.  Originally built in 1963 as a Stringer truss that collapsed in February or March 1994.  It was reconstructed as a Kingpost truss that same year.  It is the smallest authentic covered bridge in Vermont and restricted to foot traffic as there are no approach ramps.  When photographed September 12, 2004 the bridge was being used as a storage shed and a rope was stretched across its entrance with a sign declaring "Private Property No Trespassing."  The structure rests on dry stone abutments.  Weathered vertical boarding covers the sides and portals and there are two parallel vertical window openings along each side of the bridge.  Longitudinal planking forms the floor and the roof is covered with dark weathered cedar shingles.  Also known as the Janson Covered Bridge and the Murray Covered Bridge.  (Sep 2004)
