Paper Mill Village Covered Bridge
Bennington County, Vermont
(WGN 45-02-03 #2) (WGCB VT-02-03 #2):  (2000)  A single-span Town lattice truss 125' 5" over the Walloomsac River.  Located:   NW of Bennington, Vermont  off  SR 67A on Murphy Road.  Directions:   From Bennington, Vermont go north on US 7 then left at exit 1 on SR 7A to left on SR 67A 0.3 mile to left on Murphy Road.  The original 1889 bridge was demolished in December 1999 and rebuilt in April-May 2000 at a cost of $300,000.00. The bridge was named for a 1790s paper mill that was one of the state's first.  Rolled paper is still being processed in the building near the northwest corner of the bridge.   Barn red painted Horizontal ship lapped boarding covers the sides to rail height, open above the eaves exposing the truss and the end weather panels on the exterior of the sides and inside the entrances are covered with vertical boarding to the eaves.  Horizontal ship lapped boarding covers the sides of the entrances and horizontal boarding covers the gables. The weather panels inside the entrances and the trim board outlining the entrances are painted white.   It has a Gray painted steel roof.  Also known as the Paper Mill Covered Bridge, the Village Covered Bridge the Bennington Falls Covered Bridge and the Walbridge Covered Bridge.  The original 1889 bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 28, 1973.   (Sep 2003)
