Lamoille
County, Vermont
(WGN
45-08-e) (WGCB VT-08-e) (1973;
redesigned c. 1998) A two-span non authentic stringer truss
150' over the Waterbury River. Located: In Stowe Township in
Stowe, Vermont, on Mountain Road (SR 108). Directions: From
Stowe, Vermont, take SR 100 (Main Street) north to the jct. with SR 108
(Mountain Road) on the left, follow Mountain Road (SR 108) 0.1 mile to
the bridge. In 1973 a cover was built over the concrete walkway on
an existing highway concrete and steel bridge. The structure is the
longest non authentic covered footbridge in Vermont and New England.
Around 1998 the bridge was redesigned and some of its roof boards and rafter
cross ties were replaced. Seven large steel I-beam stringers, set
on poured concrete abutments support the structure. Longitudinal
planks, placed on edge, form the floor in the walkway. Weathered
Gray vertical boarding covers the upstream side of the walkway to rail
height and open above to the eave. Gray weathered cedar shingles
cover the roof. Also known as the New Village Covered Footbridge
and the Stowe Village Covered Footbridge. (Sep 2004) |
