Warren Covered Bridge
Washington County, Vermont
(WGN 45-12-15)  (WGCB VT-12-15):  (1879-80; repaired 1995; restored 2000)  A single-span Queenpost truss 54' 9" over the Mad River.  Located:  At the village of Warren, Vermont on Covered Bridge Road.  Directions:  Approaching Warren, Vermont from the south on SR 100, look for a sign with an arrow, on you right, indicating Warren Village just before a concrete-and-steel bridge.  Turn onto Main Street Warren, Vermont and go 0.4 mile to the bridge on your left on Covered Bridge Road.  The bridge has a unique asymmetrical design with a vertical east portal, but upper side walls that project differently at the west portal.  In the fall of 1995, the roadway was strengthened with timber cross-braces and stringers and the roof was re shingled.  In the fall of 1998, the bridge was closed to traffic pending a major restoration.  Restored in 2000, at a cost of $122,500.00.  Restoration work consisted of replacing four truss members, both lower chords, the floor planking, most of the upstream siding and some of the downstream siding, interior siding.  Repairing and/or replacing many floor timbers and adding bedding timbers beneath the chords, wheel treads and repairing the end posts. The structure was reopened to traffic and dedicated on October 2, 2000.  Dark weathered, vertical double layered boarding covers the sides, portals and weather panels.  There are parallel horizontal wood-framed openings on each side.  The floor has crosswise planking and lengthwise runners and its gray weathered cedar shake roof and gables project beyond the entrances to provide additional weather protection for the interior.  Also known as the Lincoln Gap Covered Bridge and the Village Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 7, 1974.  (Sep 2004)
