Whitecaps Covered Bridge
 Lamoille County, Vermont
(WGN 45-08-D)  (WGCB VT-08-D)  (1970) (Private)  A single-span non authentic Stringer truss 56'' over the West Branch of the Waterbury River.  Located:  In Stowe Township, Vermont, 4.4 miles northwest of the locality of, within the Stowe Town Line, Stowe, Vermont..  Directions:  In Stowe, Vermont at the jct. of SR 100 and SR 108 (Mountain Road), go northwest on SR 108 (Mountain Road) for 4.3 miles to Brook Road on the left (southwest), turn left onto Brook Road, and go 0.1 mile to the bridge.  It was built for the Whitecaps Corporation Housing Development, at an approximate cost of $7,000.00. Emily's Covered Bridge (WGN 45-08-12) was used as a model to design the stringer bridge cover.  A plaque on the bridge portal indicates the bridge's name is Brookdale Bridge, and it was built in 1964.  The bridge originally had a hemlock shake roof, but it has been replaced with the current steel roof.  The structure is supported by four steel I-beam stringers, set on poured concrete abutments with wing walls and its roof is supported by a simulated Howe truss.  Barn red vertical ship-lapped boarding covers the portals and sides and there are two opposing horizontal window openings along each side that run nearly the length of the bridge.  A concrete slab forms the floor and its red painted steel roof projects beyond the entrances to provide additional weather protection for the interior.  (Sep 2007)
