Biedler Farm Covered Bridge
Rockingham County, Virginia
(WGN 46-79-01) (WGCB VA-79-01):  (Private) (1896; Renovated July 1989; New diagonal flooring April 1990)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Burr arch truss 92' 6" over Smith Creek.  Located:  South of New Market, Virginia in Rockingham County off US 11.  Directions:   0.1 mile east of I-81 at exit 264 on US 211 then right 4.7 miles on US 11 and left opposite SR 796 west to the bridge on private Biedler Farm road.  (On private property so request permission to visit at the first house on the right.)  This bridge and nearby Meem's Bottom Covered Bridge (WGN 46-82-01) are the sole surviving covered bridges in Virginia supported by a multiple kingpost truss with a Burr Arch.  The bridge has an eight-panel, single-post, multiple Kingpost truss, sandwiched between a double half-height Burr arch, set on mortared, rough-cut basaltic stone abutments with wing walls.  At each end of the bridge there appears to be small storage boxes.  These non structures are called "Portal Sheds."  (May 2003)
