Bob White Covered Bridge
Patrick County, Virginia 
(WGN 46-68-01)  (WGCB VA-68-01):  (1921) A two-span Queenpost truss 80' over the Smith River.  Located:  Southwest of Woolwine, Virginia on SR 869.  Directions:  From I-81, exit 114 take SR-8 [W Main Street] (South) 164 yds; Bear LEFT (South) onto SR 8 [Riner Road] 9.7 miles; bear right (South) onto SR 8 9.8 miles; bear left (South-East) onto SR 8 [Locust Street] 0.1 mile; bear right (South) onto SR 8 [S Locust Street] 0.7 mile; bear right (South) onto SR 8 10.8 miles; stay on SR 8 (South-East) 2.4 mi; turn left on SR 618, go 1.0 mile to SR 869, on the right, go 0.1 mile to the bridge, behind the residences.  It acquired its name from the nearby Bob White Post Office, which got its name from the abundant Bobwhite Quail in the area.  Although it was replaced with a modern bridge in 1981, visitors can still walk up to the bridge, which was retained for its landmark value. Also known as the Lower Covered Bridge and the Woolwine Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historical Places May 22, 1973.  (Mar 2004)
