Sinking Creek Covered Bridge
Giles County, Virginia 
(WGN: 46-35-01) (WGCB:  VA-35-01):   (c. 1916; restored 2000)  Single-span modified Howe truss 70' 10"' over Sinking Creek.  Located:  North of Newport, Virginia on a bypassed section of Clover Hollow Road.  Directions:  From Newport, Virginia at the jct. of US 460 and SR 42 (Blue Grass Trail), go north 1.0 mile on SR 42 to left on Clover Hollow Road (SSR 601) 0.6 mile to the bridge, on the right, visible just off the roadway.  Left in place for the property owner when by passed in 1949, it was closed to traffic in 1964.  It is currently being maintained by Giles County.  The bridge was restored during 1999 and 2000 and is open to pedestrian traffic.  It has been reported that the structure received significant damage to its bottom chords when Sinking Creek flooded during tropical storm Gaston in October, 2004.
