Locust Creek Covered Bridge
Pocahontas County, West Virginia 
(WGN 48-38-01)  (WGCB WV-38-01)(c. 1870; renovated 1904; rehabilitated 2002)  A single-span double Warren truss 113' 9" over Locust Creek.  Located:   South of Hillsboro, West Virginia.  Directions:  From I 64 take Exit 169, US 219 North  (towards Hillsboro, West Virginia) past Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park and just past the Pocahontas County line sign turn right (south) on Locust Creek Road (CR 20) go approximately 3.1 miles to right (west) on Brownstown Road (CR 31) 200’ to the bridge on right.  Or, from Hillsboro, West Virginia take US 219 South approximately 2.1 miles from jct. with Main St. in Hillsboro then turn left (south) on Locust Creek Road (CR 20) go approximately 3.1 miles to right (west) on Brownstown Road (CR 31) 200’ to the bridge on right.  The original bridge cost $1,325 and is owned by the state of West Virginia.  The bridge is the only Warren truss historic covered bridge in the Southeastern United States.  Its interior was rebuilt circa 1904 and  the bridge was completely renovated in 2002.  It is no longer used for motor traffic having  been bypassed by a new bridge that was built beside it in 1990.  It is the only remaining covered bridge in Pocahontas County and is open only to pedestrian traffic.  Also known as the Denmar Covered Bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 4, 1981, simultaneously with ten other historic covered bridges in West Virginia.   (Nov 2003, Mar 2004)
