Located: Northeast of Sandyville, West Virginia on Sarvis Fork Road (CR
21-15). Directions: From Sandyville, West Virginia, go
north on CR 21 to New Era, West Virginia, where CR 21 bears a sharp right;
follow 1.2 miles to Sarvis Fork Road (CR 21-15), on the right. Go
0.3 mile to the bridge. Was originally built in Angerona, West Virginia
at Carnahan's Ford, in 1889, at a cost of $1,050. The bridge was
disassembled and re-erected at its present site on September 10, 1924.
In 1969, a truck broke through the deck planks resulting in structural
steel supports being added under the lower chords as well as two steel
piers. The segmented single Burr Arch was added in the 1980s.
In 2000, the bridge was completely rebuilt, using new materials and adding
the steel I-beam stringers, removing the earlier steel supports and piers.
It has a thirteen-panel Long truss, constructed with double-member braces,
and a segmented single Burr Arch. Sarvis Fork Bridge is open to motor
traffic Owned by the state. Also known as the New Era Covered
Bridge, the Odaville Covered Bridge and the Sandyville Covered
Bridge. On June 4, 1981, this bridge and ten other historic covered
bridges in West Virginia were listed on the National Register of Historic
