A single-span Long truss 97' over an elongated duck pond. Located:
South of Ripley, West Virginia at Cedar Lakes Conference Center.
Directions: From I-77, north of Fairplain, West Virginia, take exit
132, at CR 21, going north and immediately go right on Cedar Lake Road
0.4 mile to CR 25 (left sharp curve); go left 2.9 miles on CR 25 to Cedar
Lakes Conference Center, on the right. The bridge is on the left,
just inside the entrance. Owned by West Virginia State Board of Education.
Originally built over Tug Fork in Staats Mills, West Virginia, on CR 36,
in October 1887 at a cost of $903.95 for the superstructure; the abutments
and stone work at a cost of $710.40; and fill work and the approaches at
a cost of $110, for a total cost of $1,724.35. In July 1982, the
bridge was moved approximately 7.2 miles to its present location at the
Cedar Lakes Conference Center, near Ripley, West Virginia, where it was
restored and re-erected, at a cost in excess of $104,000. It is currently
open to pedestrian traffic only. It was listed on the National Register
of Historic Places on May 29, 1979. (Jun 2005) |
